Workplace Resilience as a Pillar of National Security – Finnish Institute of Occupational Health Launches Nationwide Initiative
The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health has launched a new initiative aimed at strengthening workplace resilience to enhance comprehensive security across Finnish society. This call to action is open to all Finnish workplaces and participation is free of charge, with no requirement for network membership.
Resilience: The Ability to Adapt and Sustain Operations
In a workplace context, resilience refers to an organization’s ability to adapt to change and recover from disruptions. This capability is rooted in functional capacity, recovery, and adaptability, allowing organizations to withstand unexpected challenges without becoming paralyzed. A resilient organization prepares in advance for various disruptions, maintains essential functions, and adapts to new situations while actively monitoring its operating environment.
Collaborative Development is Key
Building resilience requires skills and deliberate cooperation within organizations. It involves valuing people and expertise, reinforcing trust and psychological safety, and fostering development through joint efforts. Proactive decision-making and continuity management are responsibilities shared by all employees. Every role within the organization contributes to operational stability—both in normal conditions and during crises.
Resources Provided by the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health
The Institute offers ready-made content and free tools to support workplaces in enhancing their resilience. These resources are continually developed in cooperation with participating organizations, and include up-to-date information and practical approaches to improve resilience and operational continuity. The “Zero Accidents Forum,” which includes nearly 600 member workplaces and reaches about 18% of Finnish workers, acts as an effective channel for disseminating resilience practices across the labor market.
Invitation to Participate
All interested Finnish workplaces are invited to join by sending their contact information to resilienssi@ttl.fi. This initiative offers a valuable opportunity for organizations to strengthen their capacity to navigate change while simultaneously contributing to national security.
The Finnish Institute of Occupational Health emphasizes that resilience is not only a benefit for individual organizations but a collective responsibility. Especially for actors critical to security and supply chains, resilience is vital to the functioning of the entire country. This initiative represents a tangible opportunity for workplaces to take part in a shared effort to enhance the preparedness and adaptability of both organizations and society at large.
